And once upon a Christmas in third grade I used the lyrics of this song as tongue twister. But really Celtic Woman is a favorite too. Christmas music is not complete without them.
During some quiet moments, I muse about songs in Latin. Panis Angelicus seems to be heard much during the Christmas season but I am not sure how Christmas is it of a hymn. The children’s choir I sang in as a kid performed this around Christmas too. This music sets me off ready for the most wonderful time of the year. Chloe Agnew of Celtic Woman sings beautifully.
Panis angelicus fit panis hominum;
Dat panis coelicus
figuris terminum: O res mirabilis!
Manducat Dominum Pauper, servus et humilis.
Te trina Deitas unaque poscimus:
Sic nos tu visita, sicut te colimus;
Per tuas semitas duc nos quo tendimus,
Ad lucem quam inhabitas. Amen.
The angelic bread
becomes the bread of men;
The heavenly bread
ends all prefigurations:
What wonder!
consumes the Lord
a poor and humble servant.
Triune God,
We beg of you,
that you visit us,
as we worship you.
By your ways,
lead us who seek
the light in which you dwell.
Amen.
